What to do at every age
0 to 1 year
- Respond consistently to cries — this builds secure attachment
- Skin-to-skin contact directly regulates stress hormones
- Predictable routines lower cortisol levels
1 to 3 years
- Name emotions: "You seem frustrated" or "That made you angry"
- Validate feelings before redirecting behavior
